Volunteering at Hunters Woods

Three for Me logoThree for Me
A Little Means a Lot!

It’s simple! Our goal is to have you pledge and contribute 3 hours of your time over the course of the school year to help the school.

Make your pledge online today!

Studies show that involved parents are a key factor in children's success in schools. Our goal is to provide a forum for each parent to participate in making Hunters Woods an extraordinary experience for their child and their family. Three for Me is a PTA program designed to effectively involve parents and families in support of children and their education. We are asking you to dedicate three hours of your time to the school. This can be done in the home, at school, or in the community. For further information, please contact threeforme@hwpta.org.

Immediate need for volunteers will be posted on the PTA home page.

Below are a few of the volunteer opportunities available. For further information on volunteering, please contact volunteer@hwpta.org, or you may contact HWES PTA committee chairs directly. Committee Chairs email addresses are available on the Officers and Committees page.

Also, we are currently in need of several PTA Chairs. All PTA Chair positions can be shared by co-chairs or groups, why not ask a friend to work on something with you? Find out more.

Classroom Volunteers

Please sign up in your child's classroom during Back to School night or contact your child's teacher. An index of HWES teacher email addresses can be found on this page of the HWES website.

Classroom Assistance

This volunteer function provides support to the teachers in a variety of ways such as working one-on-one with students, managing book club orders, making copies and putting up bulletin boards. This position can involve helping weekly, biweekly or monthly based on the individual teacher's needs.

Museum Volunteers

Several parents from each class are needed to display class museum projects. Two museums are scheduled for this academic year.

Room Parents

The PTA room parents assist teachers with classroom activities and coordinate class parents to help with school events and projects. Events and projects include, winter parties, Writers' Celebration, museum set-up, and organizing year-end parties.

Silent Auction Basket Coordinator

Each class puts together a themed basket for the Silent Auction. The coordinator works with the teacher and students to decide on a theme, requests donations appropriate to the theme from the families in the class, collects the donated items, and arranges them in a container for the auction.

In-School Assistance

Art Volunteers

Assist our art teachers by helping to prepare and put up displays of the children's work around the school. May also involve classroom participation if needed.

Clinic

Volunteers are desperately needed in one of the busiest places in the school! Assistants are needed daily during lunch/recess time. Help is also needed during health screening in the fall. Training is provided.

Copying/Risograph

Volunteers are needed to help with copying on an as-needed basis. The risograph is a machine that makes rapid, high quantity copies (usually needed for Tuesday Folder flyers). Training is provided.

Library Volunteers

Volunteers can be trained to assist with re-shelving and shelf-checking. Neatness and organization mean that students and teachers can usually find the titles they are looking for! Special projects involving the catalogue database can sometimes be done on your own time. Other projects come up from time to time.

Odyssey of the Mind

An after school program in which teams are formed and coached by parent volunteer coaches for competition in creative thinking and problem solving. This fun and rewarding program requires a once-a-week commitment with additional time required as the competition draws near.

Office Help

If you can answer a phone, greet and direct people, make copies, and file this is the volunteer position for you. A ready smile and an extra pair of hands are always needed! The commitment is on an as-needed basis.

Phonemic Awareness

This important program is for our youngest readers who have been targeted for additional phonemic assistance. Volunteers will work with small groups of children, helping to develop necessary skills through games and activities. Training and materials are provided.

Legislative Review

Keep current on school legislative issues and assist in letter writing campaigns to voice PTA views as needed.

Mentors & Tutors

The members of this committee will work with Hunters Woods students that need extra academic assistance in the different subject areas. The chairperson may also perform tasks such as advertising in the Hunters Horn and the Mustang News to make parents and students aware that tutoring is available and respond to requests for a tutor with a name and phone number.

Reading Buddies

Parent volunteers are needed to read to students. The reading specialist runs this program and she could use some assistance. The reading specialist will match parents with students.

School Technology Committee

Additional volunteers are needed to staff food, game and activity booths (please sign up for these opportunities in you classroom at Back to School Night).

Family Fun Nights

Family fun events such as the Talent Share, Sock Hops and Bingo need volunteers to assist in preparation, during the event and with clean up. These events make our Hunters Woods community special, but they need your support to be successful. Please sign up to donate your time and creativity!

These include the Teacher Back to School Breakfast in August; Bus Drivers/Crossing Guards, Clinic Aids, Custodial/Cafeteria Workers, Office Administrative Staff, and Principals appreciation days; and the annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon held in May.

SWAT team

The SWAT team is a resource that the PTA may use for last minute, one-time requests. If you aren't sure of your schedule, but would like to help for quick, simple tasks, sign up for the SWAT team to receive emails of needs. Examples would be to purchase plastic tablecloth rolls and deliver to Hunters Woods the next morning (purchases are reimbursed by the PTA). Come in before an event for an hour to decorate. Pick up paper to deliver to Hunters Woods. It could be anything, and if you can help, just reply to the email that you're available, if you're busy, that's ok too. (Wearing Black is optional :-)

Yearbook Committee (Fall-Winter)

This committee will photograph and chronicle events and daily activities at Hunters Woods for use in the yearbook. Volunteers will work with the art teachers to compile and organize the yearbook during the winter. Volunteers are also needed to collect and process the yearbook orders in the spring.
