Keep in Touch 2009-10
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has an electronic mass notification sustem known as Keep in Touch (KIT). KIT has two services:
1) KIT Basic
2) KIT Plus
- KIT Basic
- Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of students and FCPS employees are automatically enrolled. Contact information for KIT Basic may be updated at the school or through weCare@School, a feature of FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard).
- Used by FCPS central offices and individual schools to send e-mail or phone messages related to Attendance, Emergencies and Outreach.
- KIT Plus
- Subscription service for students, community members, and citizens interested in news, events, and updates from FCPS. (If you subscribed to KIT Plus last year, you must resubscribe to continue receiving messages.
- FCPS families and employees may receive announcements from both KIT Basic and KIT Plus.
- Subscribers are also responsible for updating and unsubscribing.
- Choose to receive information from up to 5 schools.
- Choose to receive information on specific topics you choose. To receive emails from the PTA, please check the “PTA” box.

School Meals - 3 Ways to Pay
Fairfax County Public Schools now offers three ways to pay for school meals:
- Online using www.myLunchMoney.com - easy, convenient, private and secure.
- Spending History - Parents can view a 7 day history of student purchases.
- Low Balance Email Notification – Parents can receive email notification when their student’s account balance is low.
- Expired Credit Card Notification – Parents can receive email notification prior to credit card expiration.
- Meal Control Settings - Parents can select “meals only” and/or “ala carte” meals for their students.
- Spending Limit Settings – Parents can set daily and weekly spending limits for their students.
- Multi Student funding – Parents can fund multiple students at the same time.
- Option to set up "Smart Pay" to automatically replenish the account when the balance gets low and send monthly transaction reports.
- Check.
- Make check out to Hunters Woods Food and Nutrition Services - and bring the check to the food service manager's office.
- If you want your check payments to be for meals only (no à la carte items), write it on the check AND tell the manager.
- Cash.
- Students may pay cash for breakfast or lunch anytime or
- Cash may be brought to the food service manager's office for deposit in the student account.
Parents - Please Note!
- You may ask for a printed summary of your child(ren's) account at any time by contacting the food service manager or by signing on with MyLunchMoney.com. You do not need to sign up for online payment to view your child's account online.
- Please remind your child(ren) not to share their personal identification number (PIN) with anyone.
- If you want your paymetns to be for meals only (no à la carte items), tell the food service manager.

2010 Summer Reading Program
(Runs June 21 – September 4)
- Encourages children and teens to read for pleasure during summer vacation. It is held in cooperation with the Fairfax County Public School system.
- Preschoolers to second graders and third graders to sixth graders read 15 books. Children can have books read to them. Using our reading lists is not required.
- Students in grades 7-12 read eight books.
- Sign up and record your books online (after June 21) or get a reading log at your library.
- Complete your reading and come in to your library branch by September 4 to receive a coupon book full of free and discounted prizes.
- Outdoor Family Concert -
July 10 at 7:00 p.m.
- There will also be special prize drawings for kids who finish their books.
